Lyric Notes 6/1
I'm getting really bad at this blogger thing. I wonder if anyone reads this anymore. I think people have stopped listening to me completely, which is great because I seem to be wrong more often than not. Last night we had a spectacular Trivia Night. We must have had more than 30 people crammed into the Cafe, all because no one pays attention to me any more. Had they paid attention, they would have forgotten about Trivia Night as I did.
Over all, last night was a pretty good night, which was much needed after Sweet Land. Sweet Land was a good film, and definitely worth seeing, but not a big draw by an means. So with Memorial Day and Graduation last weekend, we had a horrendous week...well, it could have been worse, and I had anticipated worse, but it still doesn't change the fact that it was a bad week. But, things are looking up. I have seen more people staring at the After the Wedding poster than any other movie poster we've had, which I hope translates into sales, and of course Inland Empire is a draw because of all the avid Lynch fans, and Lynch gawkers.
I will write a few things about Inland Empire, but by no means will I review it. I don't think I could. There are two kinds of Lynchians. The Fans, who love everything he does. If he lit their favorite pair of socks on fire, the fans would proclaim it a violent and provocative work of art that should be inspirational and enlightening to all. The Gawkers, don't necessarily love everything he does, they may even hate everything he does, but they like to watch it like the like to watch popular political figures pick their nose. They just can't help it. Everyone else seems to be in the catagory of "couldn't give a shit about David Lynch". Inland Empire is the Lynchest of all Lynch films...whatever that means, so expect not to get much, if anything at all.
I may write more on this film, if anything more comes to mind.
Oh, I have to plug our new experiment. BABY BAWL'S are starting this next Tuesday. We will have a 10:30 and 2:00 show of After the Wedding for all the stay at home parents that can't get out much. Watch a good movie with your infant or toddler and don't fear the mob.

Sounds great! How about one evening a month for the baby mamas who work?
We are definitely considering it. It will depend on how well this does.
I read you blog:)
I'm still reading the posts so I’m sure there's more than a few of us who hang on your every word... :)
So now, questions, questions:
I was wondering if you could put a few more details about Game Night on Wednesdays.
☺ Is it a structured thing (I guess like Bingo or something with a moderator) or do we just stroll in, dig in the toy chest and start playing?
☺ Can we bring our own games?
☺ What if we come in alone?
☺ Could you have a singles game night? We could learn a lot about each other that way and a movie after the game would be an interesting first "date" if people got along.
☺ What about big team games like Pictionary or Cranium or maybe double-up Trivia Pursuit (each color is a team of people)? That might be real fun but I suppose you'd have to limit the size of the teams somehow; maybe by grouping folks with similarities (age ranges, shirt colors, alphabetical by first name, etc...) depending on the game. Of course, you'd ultimately have to let folks be on whatever team they want to be on.
Please let me know what you think! I could help with the singles night if you need any assistance.
Keep up the good work!! Ft. Collins needs a place like yours (and you have SUCH good parking availability)!!
We are doing a scrabble night, but I suppose you can really play whatever you want. It will be somewhat organized. We will keep track of the winners, have tournaments, give prizes (as lame as they may be). Each week we will feature a new game, but I'm guessing it will be a free for all for the most part.
you can most certainly come alone. We kind of figured alone would be the best.
I like the singles game night....we might just do that. And I've also thought about the trivial pursuit mob format...that would be fun.
hi ben,
i went last night to see inland empire and i just wanted to thank you for being the small, indie theater that made it possible for me to see it in town (the mayan sure is a hell of a drive away).
as a kid i read The Snark Out Boys and the Avacado of Death by Pinkwater and dreamed of a theater that played obscure movies late at night while the streets were empty. lo and behold, i got one better - a small theater playing obscure movies and a nice, tasty 5 barrel as well.
