Lyric Notes 4/16 (I wised up)
Sundays officially suck...pardon the graphic language...but gosh darn it, they're the worst. We got a total of 21 customers all day yesterday. What is the deal with that. I also officially hate nice days now too. We would have gotten more people both Saturday and Sunday had it not been for the nice weather. I'm bitter and very disappointed.
So this weekend was a big wake-up call. We need a serious marketing strategy. We can't rely purely on people's excitement about this place, we have to make them feel like they are missing out on something, something big. So what we came up with is Josh and I will stand out front laughing maniacally to prove what a good time we are having, thus enticing more people to come into the cafe and spend money. I hope this works...
Actually, we are having a Movie Trivia Hour trial run on Thursday at 5:00, complete with drink and food specials. Which actually will be fun, even if it's just me and Josh quizzing each other. Actually our employees (yes we have three) are pretty good at movie trivia, but no one has stumped me yet...mmmmm....movie trivia....OK, what was I talking about? Oh yeah, good times. Along with the Movie Trivia Thursdays, we will have have Date Night Tuesdays, with ticket, drink and food specials for couples, regardless of sexual orientation and relationship status. I'm a big believer in platonic football buddies going out to a heartwarming movie and sharing and piece of cake and a nice glass of wine. There is nothing wrong with that.
I'm also open to suggestions, within reason, for specials and events and other cool things you would like to see at the theater and in the cafe.
And here is a NEWS FLASH to everyone. It's looking like I will be sending Air Guitar Nation off at the end of the week, so if you want to see it, you had better come on down before Friday.

That does suck.
I'm thrilled to have a place like this here in Fort Collins and will try to support this place as much as I can. I have told many of my friends and coworkers about the place, some had no idea there was such a place.
I moved here last summer and was disappointed to find out that Fort Collins theatres only occasionally played independent films, documentaries and that I'd have to drive to Boulder/Denver for everything else (I moved here from Salt Lake City, Utah where we had a couple of independent theatres and sundance).
Anyways, sorry about my rambling, but I think it's great what you're doing and I will continue to advertise for you and bring as many friends as I can.
I agree w/ anon. I'm hugely excited to see this theater open upon in FoCo (abbreviations = immediate hipness). I too have been spreading the word since we saw Air Guitar Nation this past weekend.
Has there been any attempt to advertise to the CSU community? I have to believe that there are enough people there (student / faculty transplants from places where theaters like this are commonplace) who would be interested your cinema.
How about advertising on those terrible, pre-movie slide-shows of trivia and adverts that have become ubiquitous at all big-ass movie theaters?

So, some random comments from one of the "Sunday 21":
- Since your theater is not laid out like a "normal" one, it would be nice to have a couple more signs. "Theater here". "Broom closet - Do not enter". "Beware of mongoose". And so on. The broom closet one got me. Embarassing.
- Watching "Little Children", it seemed to me that the left side of the image on the screen was much sharper than the right side. I couldn't tell whether it was a function of the screen not being square with the projector, but it was noticable.
Looking forward to my next visit. Thanks!
Speaking of the screen... I sat in the front row and it was comfortable, unlike going to a larger theatre where you're screwed when you get the front seats. The couches are great, I opened the wrong door on my way to the theatre too.
You need more signage like above the red awnings so people will not think that the "cinema" is just that small coffe shop.
